violence of the lambs

I'm a New Zealander. Although I've been in Australia much longer than I was ever in New Zealand, and, if I were perfectly honest, who I am is more Australian than New Zealander, as all my formative years were here. Saying that I still feel like NZ is my home.

Having lived in a different country (and looonnnngg before NZ became anything but nowhere thanks to Peter Jackson and his film industry) I've had my fair share of jokes hurled at me. Most of them based around NZ's sheep population. The funny thing is, most of the jokes suck. I've quite literally told NZ jokes back to my attackers due to my disgust at their poor jibes. In this vein of self-deprecation this next film from New Zealand looks fucking hilarious!

Check the trailer at Apple's QuickTime trailer depot here: Black Sheep (Director: jonathon King, Effects by Weta Studio).

Gold on every level. If you want to hear or see a decent Kiwi-Sheep joke, ask a New Zealander. If nothing else the words will be bigger (so bring a dictionary you fucking morons).

quote for the day:
"The first european to find NZ was a Dutch sea-captain who was looking for something else ... It takes its name from a province of Holland to which it does not bear the remotest likeness, and is usually regarded as the antipodes of England, but is not. Taken possession of by an English navigator, whose action was afterwards reversed by his country's rulers, it was only annexed by the English Government which did not want it, to keep it from the French who did."
- William Pember Reeves (1857-1932)

"When George Bernard Shaw visited New Zealand a reporter asked him his impression of the place and, after a pause, Shaw is said to have replied: "Altogether too many sheep"
- George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950)

Right Where It Belongs

See the animal in his cage that you built
Are you sure what side you're on?
Better not look him too closely in the eye
Are you sure what side of the glass you are on?
See the safety of the life you have built
Everything where it belongs
Feel the hollowness inside of your heart
And it's all
Right where it belongs

[Chorus:]
What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection
Is it all you want it to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks?
Would you find yourself
Find yourself afraid to see?

What if all the world's inside of your head
Just creations of your own?
Your devils and your gods
All the living and the dead
And you're really all alone?
You can live in this illusion
You can choose to believe
You keep looking but you can't find the woods
While you're hiding in the trees

[Chorus:]
What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you used to know
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection
Is it all you want it to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks
Would you find yourself
Find yourself afraid to see?

- Nine Inch Nails

quote for the day:
"Any reviewer who expresses rage and loathing for a novel is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae. "
- Kurt Vonnegut
