(6.6.05) Subject: I'm a dopey bugger

Reason this time is that i went out on a dive boat last week with a friend to snorkel. well i forgot that my mobile was i my pocket. it came in the water with me, it's now a dead mobile and i did lose all my phone numbers, so if you've all finish your laughing, could you please e mail me your contact number(s) please. cause i wanna contact you when i get back to aussi on july 4th for 2 weeks of tesets on my head!!

Rusty

Hi Rusty  - So great to hear the latest news. Looking forward to catching up with you and Faye in July. Call us to make arrangements when you get down to Sydney. All our love and huge hugs to you all till then...Anna & Steve XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

(12.4.05)

Ok everybody- how should i start this off,
First up i just wanna say that i just "readed" all your wonderful, heart felt and positive messages on this site dedicated to little old me! I wouldn't have thought for a second that i would have a web site for me, but when you go and do something like try and kill yourself by smashing your head into a cliff what do ya expect? so on that note i gotta send a massive rusty hug and all the thanks that i can muster, firstly to BRENT for making me somewhat famous, for all da wrong reasons or was that me? thanks Brent for making a site where everyone could compare notes, present and past on me!!!!!!! And the same massive Rusty hug and all the thanks i can muster go out to all those souls kind enough to write in and those who didn't write but sent all those get well soon thoughts. The language we have in this physical world doesn't do justice to what i really want to say to all of you. A MASSIVE THANK YOU to all !!!!!!

Ok, so what am i currently up to? Will start with what i am doing now and work backwards. I am currently in the place i call home, and have done so for the last 10 years, VANUATU. I got in on the 1st of April. I chose the day, April fools day, as far as i was concerned was a great day to escape my personal prison!!! Had quite a bit of baggage to deal with from the previous six months considering all the shit that i had to go through. Just being home, which has always been the goal, is wonderful!!!! Dealt with all that now and have started getting myself physically 110% the goods again. Actually went for a 8 km cycle today, first time back riding a bike, and damn it felt good- like i'm free, free as a bird. I gotta also say it's good to be back with my dog, I've missed him and Sumo loves being here just as much as i do!!!!!!

Now, a bit about what i did in the weeks prior to my departure from Aussi! So will start with the day i left. lets just say i couldn't actually believe the day had come, cause it was always my goal!!! A close friend had organised a STRETCHED LIMO to pick me, Mum and my brother Scott, up from the Brain injury unit and take us to the airport. Some close friends travelled with us as well! Was sooo good.I was the first person to ever leave the Brain injury unit in a Limo!!! Mum and i got upgraded to business class on the flight home thanks to Dad and the head pilot of Air Vanuatu. Sometimes it's good to have contacts. The weeks prior to my escape were taken up with goodbye dinners. brunches, coffees and visits from friends. Mother fell and broke her arm requiring my brother to come and baby sit us for the last 2 weeks, Thanks Scott!!

I have to say i wasn't sad to say goodbye to Sydney but am and was sad to say goodbye to all my incredible friends. Like i said before words can't express

what i want to say!!!!! so a massive thanks to everybody who's sent good karma my way!!!!! and remember stay safe and stay positive always.

RUSTY

An update from Father Taylor

They're back!!!!! My mate Faye and the one who has caused all the trouble are back here with me in Vanuatu!!!! They arrived last Friday night April 1st (the Fools!!). Ryan with his broken head and Faye withher broken arm. A couple of cripples stepped out of Air Vanuatu business class (thanks to Yan and Terry at Airvan) into warm, tropical rain. I was so glad they didn't fall down the steps onto the tarmac and break something else!! After the limo ride from the Rehab Centre to Sydney airport and then the business class flight to Vila it was a reality check for them both to load their piles of luggage onto our trailer in the rain and then squeeze into our 2-door, rusty jeep for the ride to the house. Sumo had arrived a couple of weeks previously so he was pleased to see them too.

After one week they are both winding down from the stress of Sydney to the more sedate lifestyle of the tropical south Pacific. For those of you who were not aware, I have been on my own here in Vila since December 30. Faye took the first term off school on leave without pay to be with Ryan and help with his rehabilitation. And she did a wonderful job but with a couple of weeks to go she fell over and broke her arm so Scott went over from Auckland to help out as she couldn't cook or drive or pack and carry her bags or do much at all for Ryan. Now I'm the care-giver. Well, sort of. I'm the driver - and I'm the dishwasher. And various other jobs now seem to be my responsibility. Ryan has done all
the cooking since they got back - and I must say that I'm now eating better than I was as a bachelor. Faye's arm is slowly mending. She has one more week of school holidays before she will be back in harness as PVIS Principal.

I'll let Ryan tell you about his progress when we get his laptop connected at home. He's already riding my bike which was a great achievement. The ulcer on the ball of his left foot hasn't healed yet and until it does he won't be swimming. Bugs abound in these warm, tropical lagoons. He's doing lots of stretching and it won't be long before I start taking him with me to the gym where I workout.

Faye and Ryan will add more very soon. Until then, take care of yourselves.

Regards, Lindsay.

Hello Rusty dude great to hear you’re improving. Looking forward to seeing you strolling the fairways at the coast smacking the little white ball into distance.

Best wishes from tim and the Boys from woollahra.

Rusty

Just to tell you it has been fantastic to spend time with you and your gorgeous mum Faye over the last few weeks. I will miss you both a lot. Great to meet Scott as well.

Rusty, it was weird how we got back in touch at such a time in your life. I passed your house every day and thought of you surfing, sky diving and base jumping. Not knowing what was really going on in your world.

As I have said to you before, you are an amazing person with more courage and determination than anyone I have ever known. You deserve the very best in this world and I have no doubt that you will have it. In fact, you already do have it. You have the love and support of an amazing family and fabulous friends who obviously love and care for you. Me included.

Enjoy your time in Vanuatu. Be as strong and amazing as you have been so far and whatever you want in this world will be yours.

Lots of love (and a big kiss to Sumo for me),

Stink x

Hi Rusty,

Last Saturday night, I had some one walk into our restaurant for a drink with a few scruffy guys. Instantly I recognised him. “Spraggs” I yelled from behind the bar. After a quick catch up, I asked about you because I haven’t been in contact since you left Noosa 5 or so years ago. He then told me the tragic news. I was devastated. But knowing you & your determined, stubborn personality, & just looking at your web site (which Spraggs just gave me), & all the love & support you have, I know you will be fine & up & atom soon.

Take care Rusty, God bless, Love Aza, Courtney & Jude

What a wonderful opportunity you both had Faye and Ryan and wonderful to see you standing upright Ryan. Your speedy recovery never fails to amaze us. Isn't it wonderful how such positive faith brings miracles.

We have been lucky enough to have Leina and Paul with us for 5 days and the weather continues to be awesome. We had a good trip out to Tiritiri Matangi. It was great to see the results of my mum's hours of planting. The birds are a delight - Kokako, saddlebacks, bellbirds, Stitchbirds, NI robins as well as the more plentiful varieties of the main land .

Bad luck about your arm Faye. I'm sure Scott will be a good nurse maid for a few days. We are looking forward to your next update Ryan.

Love and Hugs to you all, Ray and Stella xxxoooxxx

Last week we arranged for Rusty & Faye to come in and meet the Westpac Helicopter rescue team that picked him up from the bottom of North Head. It got pretty emotional but it was great for him to meet them and vice versa. It is not very often the rescue boys get to meet people they have helped, especially those in as bad a condition as Rusty. Rusty said thanks for saving his life and then he was showed over the machine that picked him up and explained everything that was done to him in rather too much detail for my liking. After the tour we took some photos then Rusty & Faye went for a fly over the city in one of my company helicopters - we thought this was suitable as the only other time he had been in a helicopter he was unconscious. I am sure Rusty enjoyed getting back up in the air and I hope Faye did as well, although the choice to take all the doors off the helicopter may not have been hers...

It was great to see Rusty up and about and with these boys and we all owe them a debt of gratitude as well. It is great to see you doing so well and I will miss you when I go back to the UK.

Hi Rusty

Great to hear you are doing so well! keep the fire within going. You will get there. Well wishes Bel ( Eck ).

( Bel Summertime - 7.2.05 )

We are all waiting for the next progress episode Ryan. We know you have been busy with moving etc, but hey that's no excuse.

We have finally had some summer weather here since the beginning of January. It was a bit late starting, but it's been good for 4 weeks now so no complaints. Hopefully you will be able to cool off in some water somewhere. I see the temperatures have been pretty high over your way.

Sumo will be enjoying his new surroundings in Vanuatu and good company for whoever is home

Love to you all. Keep up the good work Faye. You are obviously doing a good job.
Hugs all round

Hey Rusty

WOW - it was so great to see you - it has been too long!!!

I have this great photo of us together at a Megaswim staff party right here next to my desk and I have a little Thai elephant next to the photo - I rub his belly every day and wish you lots of luck.

When Lloyd was sick I did the same - and now both of you now seem to be doing great. Maybe it does work!

I really want to keep in touch.  Lloyd was blown away with how you have come so far so quickly - this inspires him and your mother's words and book recommendations for training the brain are the next step for him!

You are really amazing!! Well done.

Lots of love, peace & happiness always, Georgie, Lloyd, Joe & Jake

An update from Rusty

Wazzup all!

It's me Rusty. Here i am back again in the land of the living and remembering.I am at the flat at Bondi for Christmas and the New Year. These 10 days of leave from the rehab centre have been soooo very wicked. I have spent Christmas with Ma ,Pa ,Wade ,Scott and close mates and it rocked big time!!!!

I am doing better than 10 weeks ago!!!!!!, Actually am doing very well!!!! I'm eating plenty ( got heaps of weight to put back on), going out for latte's , those who don't know what that is, it's coffee!!! I'm keeping busy doing daily physio, O/T, speech, playing cards and games and just chillin' out.

I am still unable to walk by my lonesome self but with the help of a walking frame am doing a little each day. My number 1 goal is to be able to walk by my self, so watch this space for updates. The left side of my body is very weak and i still have palsy on the right side of my face.

I am overwhelmed by all your support, help and love. Cheers Brent for the web site. I am back on my mobile all the time and emails in weekends, See you all when I'm looking at ya!!!!

The Rust man, later days all Blue skies

Hey there fella,

Am absolutely thrilled to hear that you are doing so well. It's definitely the best bit of news we could have wished for this Christmas. You'll be glad to hear that us mad Irish cailins are still entering these freezing Atlantic waters in search of the perfect wave! When you and Red come to visit us again we are not taking any more wussy excuses as to why you can't get in the water!!!!! Really looking forward to that day...I'll have the pints of Guinness ready and waiting.

Love you loads, Beth xoxox

An update from the Taylor's

It's nearly two weeks since our last up-date and in that time Ryan's progress has continued slowly. Lindsay had ten days back in Vanuatu followed by Faye returning there for a week. Wade arrived from Auckland some weeks ago followed by Scott last week. So now the whole family is back here in Sydney and we're all preparing for some festive cheer!!*? A couple of months ago, apart from not thinking this far ahead, it never occurred to us that we would be having a family Christmas together.

On Thursday 9 December Ryan was brought home to his flat during the day. The Ryde Rehab staff wanted to check out the suitability of the flat for Ryan in his wheelchair. The flat passed the test so he stayed for the afternoon before Wade and Lindsay delivered him back to Ryde. Then on Sunday 12 December, exactly two months after the accident, he was allowed his first full day trip home without supervision. These were small milestones for Ryan and in his words, "unreal". On both days he curled up on his own bed with Sumo for a short nap during the afternoons and had some "home-cooked" meals prepared by Wade and Lindsay. Not quite as good as Faye's cooking but not bad just the same. Then last Friday evening, 17th December, we picked him up from Ryde and and he spent the entire weekend at home!!! Slept in his own bed - with Sumo of course. We pushed him along the promenade at Bondi beach in his wheelchair and around the shops at Bondi Junction. Wonderful!! The next step is xmas, where he will be home for a week.

Ryan still has to have lots of rehab yet but that is mostly physical stuff. His brain appears to be as good as it ever was. I am inclined to add here that it never was very good before - especially as he enjoyed jumping off cliffs and other high places - but I won't add that!*? His thinking, cognitive abilities seem undiminished. His reading and writing skills are back to normal and he participates in normal conversation. Large groups of visitors can be confusing for him as he tries to take in everything that is going on around him but with small groups he is fine. However, his face is still affected by palsy and remains slightly twisted. His left arm, hand and leg have limited movement, and will take a lot of work to get back to 100%. He is confident that this will happen however, and is putting in a lot of effort.

I'd just like to put that we've had some personal emails and phone calls from many people, and your thoughts are as always, very appreciated. Thanks again, and have a great holiday season.

Faye, Lindsay, Scott, Wade, Camelia and Sumo.

PS: His social worker, Andreas, has shown him the website and Ryan is overwhelmed by all of your love and support.

Hey Rusty, greatings from Canada. Good to hear things are picking up for you. We have been following your progress on this web site and thinking of you lots and all the fun we had in Noosa. Hi Ryan,

Great news to hear that you are making many significant strides in your recovery.  I had to tell you this story as I was unpacking some boxes last weekend (Yes, Faye.  We have been living here for 10 months and haven't finished unpacking) and guess what we came across.  The tape from the PVIS Lip Sync 2000....  the kids snaffled it quickly and as I was listening from another room, I suddenly realised that it was you, Wade and Scott doing "Walk This Way, Talk This Way".  I have headed into the bedroom and there you were, strutting your stuff as the head banging rock"n"roller, riding that microphone, eating up the stage and having just the best time.  Then another couple of numbers in, there was your Mum with Sue Burnett, and the Annes (Phillips and Heydon) doing a Spice Girl number dressed up as haus girls.  Faye, you were in black leotards and leopard print and when I pointed out to Courtney's friend who was visiting "that vibrant, dancing, singing woman is the PVIS Principal", her face would have made you laugh...  That night showcased the prodigious talent of the Taylor family - with Scott, Wade, Mum, Camelia and yourself doing many numbers and we look forward to such vibrant going ons again.  Lindsay, how come you didn't get roped into that one?

Love and prayers to you all, the fabulous Taylor clan, and Faye, I look forward to having a coffee with you in Port Vila...

Much love to you all, Sonya

I knew it wouldn’t be long before you could read these emails yourself Rusty. This is all good news.

Happy days ahead, Kelly.

Just read the 7/12 update Lyndsay and Faye - WOW!!! Such progress since we were down visiting Rusty a month ago. What inner strength you all have - oh - and physical strength now you're out pushing our Rust around town. So looking forward to being with you all again soon.

The Satsang Group have been following your progress Rusty, with keen interest. Loving thoughts go to you from Helen, Etta, Bel and of course from Steve and Anna. Huge hugs till Saturday. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

The progress Ryan is making is absolutely phenomenal. I know it probably seems slow to you all, but in reality he is progressing in leaps and bounds thanks to all your love and care.

It is just 8 weeks ago that Leina rang us with this horrendous news and we all waited with bated breath.
Ryan you are one strong young man and we look forward to lots more progress reports. Your determination and tenacity will win in the end.

All our love and positive thought are with you.

An update from the Taylor's

A key word for Ryan's situation is slow. He is making slow progress every day, and becomes more alert and gains more control as the weeks pass. For a week and a half now, Ryan has started remembering the previous days. He is holding on to the memories of recent events and visitors now, and after getting 100% on his short term memory tests 3 days in a row, we are happy to report that he is now officially out of Post Traumatic Amnesia.

He doesn't have complete control of the left side of his body yet, and he describes the sensation as waking up after having slept on your arm, then trying to make it work while it is still asleep. We are working very hard on recovering this control every day, and the progress is remarkable. The physio work does tire him, but he attacks it head on like anything he has ever done, and is very focussed on what he wants to achieve. One of the things he wants more than anything is to start walking as soon as possible. However, certain factors inhibit this from happening quickly, such as very weakened leg muscles, his injured left ankle, pressure points on the soles of his feet and the brain injury that is affecting the movement on his entire left side. We can tell you however that he is able to stand for a minute or so with help, and is working on gaining more range of motion and control of his limbs. It's - like everything - a slow process.

Physically, he is still very weak and a lot thinner than we are used to. I suppose that would happen to the best of us after 7 weeks of lying down. He also has palsy on the right side of his face, which is a paralysis of the facial muscles due to nerve damage. At this stage it is uncertain how long it will take for this to come right, but we have been told that it should be temporary.

On another note, he is interacting with people better all the time, and is very lucid. His diet has recently been changed to soft foods, as he passed his swallowing tests with flying colours last week, and we now spend a lot of our time at the local cafe down the road inhaling coffees and gelatos as fast as they can make them. A taste of celebration according to him. We are all getting fit pushing him long distances, up and down the hills of the neighbourhood, and now that his progress has allowed him to be upgraded to a lighter, sportier model wheelchair, we are all breathing a sigh of relief when it is our turn to drive/push.

Thank you all once again so much for your thoughts and love. We appreciate it all. And of course Ryan does too.

Faye, Lindsay, Scott, Wade, Camelia and Sumo.

PS: His social worker, Andreas, has shown him the website and Ryan is overwhelmed by all of your love and support.

A speedy recovery which we are sure will be swift and complete.  We are looking forward to catching up with you again soon in Vanuatu.  Pete and I follow your progress on this website so thank you very much Lindsay and Faye for spending precious time on completing the update.  Even though we are in Melbourne, we are thinking of you and wishing you the best.

See ya soon, Peter Wallace and Deb Houser

Dear Faye and Lindsay,

I think of you both every night at 8pm as you trudge across the city, back to Bondi and it can't be easy but after seeing Rusty last week, I have no doubt that your presence there everyday has had a huge impact on his recovery. As I watch you both over the weeks, you are every bit the parents that I hope I can be one day.

Ryan,

We are thinking of you every day. The positive thoughts, prayers and love from all the people that are lucky

An update from the Taylor's

It's eleven days since we last posted an update and in that time lots has happened. On Thursday 11 November, Faye arrived back from Vanuatu after a short 6-day return home to check on things. She didn't really want to go and couldn't wait to get back - but what a return!! She walked in to see Ryan and asked him did he know who she was and he spoke his first word!!!!! since the accident and replied "Mum". I asked him who I was and he replied "Dad". I held up a photo of his dog and asked who it was and he replied "Sumo". He subsequently tried to talk in sentences and/or ask questions but with the tracheostomy, air does not flow over the vocal chords so it was very difficult to understand more than single words. It is most unusual for anyone to talk at all with a tracheostomy let alone as much as Ryan did. His tracheostomy line was removed on Tuesday 16 November and his speech has improved a little since then. On Thursday 18 November, his feed line through his nostril was removed and inserted directly into his stomach through the abdominal wall so his face is now clear of all tubes. The feed tube is still required because he cannot yet swallow sufficiently well to be able to take in all required nutrition.

Unless you are one of Ryan's many friends who have visited him during the last week and seen how he actually is, you may gather from this update that he is well on the road to recovery. He has made remarkable steps since officially coming out of the coma last week but it is difficult to convey here, in these few words, his actual condition. He looks like he has suffered a stroke. His left eye is frequently closed although it appears to be okay. He tends to speak out of the left side of his mouth. He has great difficulty making his left arm and hand obey instructions. His feet are in need of some serious physiotherapy or he may have difficulty walking. He is experiencing what is known as "post traumatic amnesia". This condition may continue for weeks or even months and it cannot be predicted how well he will emerge from it. He has very little short-term memory. When told something he can forget it entirely, sometimes within minutes. He has difficulty remembering who visited him during the day, let alone yesterday. He frequently speaks in riddles and says things that don't make any sense. All of this behaviour is typical of post traumatic amnesia - a state of acute confusion. We understand that many activities that we take for granted - such as swallowing and walking etc, will have to be re-learned. The staff lift him from his bed into a wheelchair and we take him for walks in the garden but he quickly tires.

As you are all aware, Ryan is a remarkable character and if anyone can pull through this, he can. We are giving him all the support possible and we continue to be thankful for your support as well. The staff at the Rehabilitation Centre are wonderful and we are ever hopeful of a great recovery.

Faye, Lindsay, Scott, Wade, Camelia and Sumo.

Dear Taylor family,

You are still constantly in our thoughts and although we would like to be in touch more regularly by phone realise you don't need the stress of this at this time.

The news Ryan is responding in small ways to questions, commands etc. is great  news and let's hope this begins to increase, rapidly, once the healing process advances.   Give him our love and we do hope Sumo is able to visit his boss soon.  As a dog owner we know only too well what an advantage this can be.

We look forward to the next web update and are praying for news of a great leap forward for Rusty.

Love from the Barsons.

Hi Faye, Lindsay, Ryan and crew

Leina tells us there continues to be progress which is great news. I know they are very small steps but any step forward is a plus. I'm sure he was pleased to see Sumo as well.

Faye and Lindsay: Your presence is obviously a real help to Ryan.
Ryan: Your mum and Dad are there for you in person. We can only be there with positive thoughts at this stage. We are thinking of you though and send all our love and good wishes. You're getting through this Buddy. Just keep it up.

Dear Faye, Lindsay, Scott, Wade and Camelia,

So good to get an update on Ryan's progress and to hear that there are positive signs in what must be long, hard days for you all.

Please be assured that there isn't a day goes by where Ryan and his very loving family are not in my thoughts and prayers.

I was speaking to Helen Bull the other day, Faye.  Her father went into a coma after brain surgery for an abcess seven weeks ago.  She cajoled (and bullied) him to awakeness just a week ago and he is at the start of a long recovery process also.  She sends you all her love.

So pleased that you will be able to take Sumo into see Ryan and hope it happens soon.  I am a great believer in the strength of the bond between owner and animal and I can tell by the photos that Ryan sure loves his dog.

Take care of one another.

Love, Sonya

An update from the Taylors

Today, Tuesday 9 November, exactly 4 weeks to the day after his accident, Ryan has been moved from the Royal North Shore hospital to the brain injury unit at the Royal Rehabilitation Centre in Ryde.

This has to be seen as a positive step but it also has to be emphasised that Ryan has had a severe head injury resulting in brain damage that could be permanent and is officially described as still being in a coma. Nevertheless, at this stage he is responding to voice commands by small hand and head movements and can hear, see and seems to be able to recognise the difference between family, friends and hospital staff. I (Dad) gave him a shave yesterday and commented to him that I wasn't much of a barber and asked was I hurting him to which I got a slight shake of his head, which gave me confidence to continue and I didn't cut him at all!! He will occasionally raise his eyebrows or give a thumbs-up to a "yes" question and occasionally give a shake of his head to a "no" question.

So we traipse back and fore across this city and give him all the support we can. This is going to take a long time and we're in it for the long haul. We are strengthened by ALL of your kind, loving messages. We haven't yet responded to them all individually but we will. It is quite difficult for us to articulate through this website, our thoughts and feelings regarding your support for Ryan and us,his family.

Love and positive vibes back to you all.

Faye, Lindsay, Scott, Wade, Camelia and Sumo.
(The Rehab Centre allows pets to visit within a certain area so we will be taking Sumo when the time is right.)

Dear Taylors, I know this will be a hard time for all  of you but it won't be long before you will all be together again. We are just a phone call away and Leina will help in any way she can. We are thinking of you all. Our positive thoughts are aimed your way. If you need a break Lindsay just give us a tinkle.

Dear Ryan,

When thoughts of you are in my mind, it is with the strongest sense of perpetual motion.  You would breeze into the school office with that glorious smile, wanting to know if Mum was busy.... you were always going off "to do something"....  surfing, or golfing, or riding around on the bike, meeting friends... enjoying Vila's life force...  always active and seizing each day with glorious enthusiasm.  Often when I am meeting challenges with my son Jon, your Mum tells me that he is a child a lot like you were, and that he embraces life and its challenges a lot like you did in your childhood years.  She tells me often to take heart because you turned into a wonderful, warm hearted and caring young man and I think that is the greatest compliment a parent can give.  You are so loved by your family and friends as this website attests, so keep fighting the battle and use that vitality, enthusiasm and great love of life to come back from the depths.

It may seem strange to get a greeting from someone who is only an acquaintance to you, but we all want you to know that we are out here willing you to recover and that our constant thoughts are with you.

To Faye, Lindsay, Scott, Wade & Camelia,

Stay strong.  Great news to hear that Ryan has improved to the point where he if off life support.  With all these messages, support and prayers, you are very blessed and loved.  I think of you all daily and if there is anything I can do at any time to be of help, just call.

Thanks for the website and giving us somewhere to check on Ryan's progress.

Much love, Sonya

Today Tuesday 2nd November, exactly 3 weeks after his accident at North Head, Sydney, Ryan has been moved from the Intensive Care Unit at Royal North Shore hospital to the neurological ward 7B. He has been moved because he is now considered to be off the critical list. This means that he no longer requires life support systems although he is still unconscious. Ryan's head injury is considered serious and the outcome is uncertain. We have been advised by the neurological team that whatever the outcome may be, recovery and rehabilitation could take many months, if not years. No predictions can be made at this time.

We remain as strong and positive as possible. Thank you for your continued love and support.

Faye, Lindsay, Scott, Wade, Camelia and Sumo.

Hello Taylors one and all. It is wonderful to hear that there has been a little progress and I think I'm right in that he is moving out of intensive care soon. All these strong positive thoughts and prayers must be helping a little. We are all gunning for you Ryan. Your friends and family are with you all the way. Sumo will be looking forward to seeing you again.

Being here in Queensland seems like the other side of the world so it is great to know what is going on with Rusty and how you guys are coping with everything. I have never met any of you but my heart aches for the range emotions that you all must be experiencing on a daily basis. There is a great deal of support and love from all over the world for Rusty and that means that there is a great deal of support and love for you guys as well. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Stay Strong.

Here's an update from us Taylor's here in Sydney. The weather's fine and life's a bitch. Some smart prick said you get just what you deserve in this life but surely we didn't deserve this.

Thursday Day 17. We're keeping a log. A brief description of events and feelings day by day. It's a bloody roller coaster! We're never up very high but we certainly go down pretty low from time to time. Nevertheless, we try to keep strong and positive.

Ryan is still unconscious. He has had the probe taken out of his skull that was measuring brain pressure as that now seems to be stable. He is off morphine and sedatives and is breathing by himself - almost. About 95%. The "storming" he is going through is part of serious head trauma, "Storming" is a combination of uncontrollable tremors - very distressing! and very high heart rate and blood pressure, which have gone off the top of the scale from time to time. These are being brought under control by a concoction of drugs that is taking time to get right, His unseeing eyes still move continuously from side to side when they lift his eye-lids. You can actually see them moving under the lids. All of this is symptomatic of brain-stem injury. No-one can give any predictions at all as to what the outcome will be except that it will take a very long time.

Today Friday Day 18 - I'm writing this at 10pm - he had a tracheaostomy this morning. They cut a hole in his throat and took all the tubes out of his mouth and inserted them through his throat and the feeding tube through his nose. If they left them in his mouth too long they could have caused damage to the voice box plus he could gag on them as he regains consciousness plus they cause him distress, even in his unconscious state. The procedure was a success and he is mostly breathing by himself but storming is not yet under control.

The team of doctors, nurses, social workers and staff at the Royal North Shore Hospital ITU is amazing and they are doing everything they can for Ryan and for us as a family.

Thanks to everyone for continued support, cards, flowers, phone calls, emails and positive thoughts. We and Ryan can certainly use them all.

With love from Faye, Lindsay, Scott, Wade, Camelia and Sumo.

PS - Sumo is Ryan's dog and is missing Ryan as much as us.

Fay, lindsay, Wade & Camelia, Scott, Nic, Red and the goofball Sumo,

Although I am in contact with one of you most days, its often hard to express even the most simple of emotions. Tonight reading the website has overwhelmed me with the love and affection your son Rusty has inspired in all he has met. Although I am not surprised. And after getting to know you all, it is no wonder you have such a wonderful son and brother. What a wonderful and inspiring family you are. How could anyone doubt that with the strength and love your family is built on that our Rusty could not come through this.

In a crowd of strangers, Rusty would be the one to emerge with a room full of friends and these comments show that. I haven’t known Rusty for that long but the Taylor’s seem to have a profound affect on people. You only have to meet Rusty once to understand. Hang in there Rusty! Mine and many other people’s thoughts are with you and your family.

Message from the family.

We realise that you all know our son and brother as Rusty but we call him by his given name - Ryan.
It is obvious to us that Ryan has touched the hearts and lives of many, many people all over this planet. We would like to thank each and every one of you for your love and kind thoughts during this difficult time.

His condition is still described by the intensive care unit as critical but stable. We admire immensely the ICU staff and cannot thank them enough for the care that they are providing. The nature and seriousness of Ryan's head injuries make it impossible to predict an outcome but we all remain positive and optimistic.

With love from Faye, Lindsay, Wade, Camelia, Scott and Sumo.

Dear Rusty,  You have been a huge inspiration in my life and a loyal friend.  So hurry up and wake up so i can share some more of my crazy stories with you, and i know you have some!!! (Normally covered in grass stains from your famous Rusty style landings) It is wonderful that you are getting all these letters from people that care, but it will be even better when you can read them to yourself. We are all thinking of you every day and look forward to seeing your smiling face again.. oh and Sumo of course.

Hey Rusty,

I hear that you will be undergoing cosmetic surgery this week.  This is fantastic news but I am a little concerned because if they make you better looking than you were before the single blokes of the world have got no hope.  This is also a major concern for us married blokes as well. Hang in there buddy.

Whoever didn't see or remember these are simply lucky or about to lose all money spent on therapy. Thanks to Joe for not deleting his inbox and sending them in.

Rusty soon after loosing the long locks and during his fleeting "journey of discovery" as a gay biker...

Hey Rusty.

You are one of those people who no one forgets, no one quite understands but no one would ever admit to not enjoying any encounter with you. You’re a shining light to many of us and we all know you will come through this somehow smelling of roses, because you are such a tenacious bugger. Just thought a couple more shots needed to go up too. Ah memories……

Get well soon Rusty, Adam

Rusty,

I don't think it was the first time that I met you, dressed in a blue mini skirt, leather jacket and top hat, that I thought you would be in my life for ever. In fact I was delighted when they threw you out of the pub! You know you have the most amazing family and I know you will show them how to help you through this. My heart and every thought are with you.

Love Nic xxxx

PS. Small slim Red is on his way tomorrow, you're in serious pooh now!

Dear All,

Here we are again, update time! So, no change - frustrating I know to hear again, but this is the nature of his condition. He was stable over night and the doctors are pleased with his progress, albeit slow. What is happening is expected considering the impact so there is nothing to worry about with this slow progress. I will send him your love tonight!

Take care, love Roza

Hey Rusty!

We only met once when you were up in Brissy a few years back but I remember you vividly....you are one character hard to forget!! Sounds to me like your vigour for life will get you through - so just stay strong and I look forward to hearing about your comeback jump!!

Ps - your chops sound great!

Rusty

This time last week I was on the phone to you talking about your antics off some 850 foot cliff with the Gibbo brothers. I told you to be careful and it would appear you have not heeded my advice. This has been a tough week for all of your family and friends, and most of all for you. We know you are fighting and know also that we are fighting for you. I am not sure whether or not the Royal North Shore has had to put with quite so many visitors for some time for one guy but that about sums you up. Keep strong and we have faith that you will get better soon and we can get back to our playground in the sky, I did a jump on Saturday and it is no where near as much fun without you up there. Get well soon brother and Blue Skies.

Dear All,

Just a quick note on Rusty's condition as of this morning. He is still stable and there is no change in the pressures in his head. They have a scan booked in for later this morning so we may know more tomorrow. There is a plan to have him undergo plastics on Wednesday to reposition the bones in his face - it is ideal to do this within 10 days of the accident as the bones begin to fuse, or grow back, in the place where they broke. However the priority is his head and the operation won't take place if the levels get too high due to the stress. What else? They gave him a shave on the weekend and he looks really funny as he has a shaved head, no facial hair, but just these 2 side burn squares!

His parents, Lindsay and Fay, are here as well as his brothers Scott and Wade so he has lots of visitors. We all had a lovely lunch in Bondi on Saturday after our visit to the hospital and it was good to all get together. I also read out all your messages, so keep them coming!

Take care, love Roza

Abu here,

Rusty, many, many friends are praying for you, as I am. I have a larger than life picture of you in my mind, so don't go spoiling it for me ! LOL. I am looking forward to you telling me that crazy story that starts something like - "the day I jumped off North Head". It's one for the grandchildren. I send you all the drumming vibes I have, and wish for your speedy recovery. You'll have to come back to us ASAP, I hear Sumo's running a muck ??!

Love ya Brother, Abu

Hey Rusty,

You have been constantly in my thoughts and prayers. When I close my eyes I can picture the smiles we shared over breakfast only last Sunday. The huge group of friends that are constantly getting updates on your recovery is a testament to the infectious nature of your friendship.  Keep battling because we all want to share so much more future fun with you.

Hi all,

Hope you are all well and looking forward to the weekend.

Just a quick note on Rusty. There is currently no change in his condition. The pressure in his head remains the same and he is stable. It is good that it hasn't gone up and it is a waiting game for the levels to come down.

I will update you daily as of Monday but please bear in mind it is a frustrating time as it is expected he will be in Intensive Care for at least 2 weeks. I have been relaying your messages to him when I see him so if you have anything to say to him, please feel free to email me and I can print it out and read it to him.

The family are most appreciative of your support from whatever distance.

Have a great weekend and keep praying for Rusty.

Love from, Roza
